Community Recreation Service of Boston is established.
1920
Originally called Community Services of Boston, its purpose is “the promotion of a better and more healthful community toward men in the military and naval service of the United States.” The organization conducts and supports clubs, canteens, recreation facilities and leisure time activities. The organization changes its purpose to emphasize “the education of children and grown-up people in the most profitable use of their leisure time” in 1933 and assumes its current name in 1940.
